From the recording I Surrender
I attended a silent retreat and had a felt experience of compassion for my inner child. I wanted to acknowledge her and what she went through, so I wrote this song for her.
Lyrics
Oh precious brown-eyed child
I am sorry to have seen
such violation of your body
and the shattering of your dreams
You were afraid to lay your head down
There were footsteps in the night
Acts of terror and of violence
Forgotten in the light
You explored in the woods
You sang by the creek
You played under the willow
You were gentle and oh so meek
Oh if I could have been there
I’d have held you for dear life
I’d have screamed and cast him out
I’d have cut him with a knife
Oh precious brown-eyed child
I am sorry to have seen
such violation of your body
and the shattering of your dreams
You were afraid to lay your head down
There were footsteps in the night
Acts of terror and of violence
Forgotten in the light
